Former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia 

Ralph Frank, the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, presented his credentials to President Mesić on July 2, 2003.Prior to arriving in Croatia, Ambassador Frank completed an assignment at the Department of State in Washington, D.C., as Office Director in the Bureau of Human Resources, Office of Career Development and Assignments, a position he had held since October 2001. From 1997 to 2001, he served as United States Ambassador to Nepal.A career diplomat, Ambassador Frank has worked in different regions of the world and has held a number of leadership positions in the U.S. Department of State. After joining the Foreign Service in 1975, Ambassador Frank served abroad in Belgrade; Medan, Indonesia; Warsaw; and Kathmandu, Nepal. In the Department of State in Washington, D.C., he was Executive Director of the Bureau of Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs and Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary for Management.Ambassador Frank also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureaus of Diplomatic Security, Administration, and Human Resources. Ambassador Frank has received the Department of State's Superior Honor and Meritorious Honor Awards. He was born in Washington State, has undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Washington and was an officer in the Submarine Service of the U.S. Navy. He is married to Susan Gundersen. They have two children.
