The Ambassador

Ambassador Bradtke's Reaction to March 21, 2007

March 26, 2007
I was truly shocked to read in Wednesday's Slobodna Dalmacija the opinion piece by Damir Pilic entitled "Hitler of Our Time." It's one thing to differ with the policies or actions of the President of the United States. It's another to draw an outrageous comparison with the person responsible for World War II, the Holocaust and the deaths of 11 million people. Personal attacks against the president aside, the commentary and its title also show ignorance of the diplomatic efforts underway around the world, in support of non-proliferation (North Korea), dealing with starvation and vast numbers of refugees (Sudan), or peace in the Middle East, all promulgated by President Bush, which are so often ignored or buried in the rush to criticize my government's policy in Iraq. Not the least of these is our ongoing effort to ensure justice and lasting peace in the region of former Yugoslavia, which is among this President's highest foreign policy priorities. I hope Slobodna will in the future eschew uninformed opinion from its contributors, opting instead for the kind of quality journalism that befits your reputation.
