Bird Flu

Avian Flu in Croatia

In February 2006, the Croatian government confirmed the presence of the H5N1 Avian Influenza virus in several migratory birds in Croatia. This is the first reappearance of H5N1 in migratory birds in Croatia since its confirmation in six dead swans found in eastern Croatia in October 2005. There have been no reports of illness or death in humans as a result of the presence of the virus in the wild bird population. There have been no reports of infection among non-wild birds or in any poultry in Croatia.

Croatian officials continue to work closely with international agriculture and health experts to contain and prevent the spread of the virus.
