Zagreb, July 19, 2005 - United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Croatia Mission Director, William Jeffers, will join Mayor of Vinkovci Mladen Karlic for the official presentation of the Vinkovci e-government system on Wednesday, 20 July 2005, at 10 A.M. at the Joza Ivakic Town Theatre.
The Vinkovci e-government system was funded by USAID through the Local Government Reform Project (LGRP). The e-government assistance includes a modern information technology (IT) system and staff training with a view to improving organizational efficiency and productivity, expanding citizen services and creating transparent and accountable local government systems and organizations.
Mr. Jeffers will also join Mayor of Split Zvonimir Puljic and members of the City Council for presentations on e-government and asset management on Friday, 22 July 2005, at the Split City Hall, at 10 A.M. In Split, USAID assists with modern asset management practices and procedures intended to consolidate inventories of assets and generate local revenues.
USAID is the primary assistance organization of the United States Government. Since 1992, the United States has provided over $407 million in assistance to Croatia (much of it through USAID programs) to strengthen democratic institutions, assist in postwar reconstruction and the return of refugees, to support de-mining and economic development, and to provide educational and training opportunities for Croatian citizens. The U.S. Government has also provided guidance and support to the Croatian judicial and military sectors to further Croatia's integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
