USAID Mission Director to Address Hotel Association in Split
For Immediate Release
September 7, 2005
Zagreb, September 9, 2005 - United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Croatia Mission Director, William Jeffers, will address the Croatian Association of Small and Family Hotels at their meeting on September 9, 2005 in Split.
USAID has provided assistance to the Croatian Association of Family and Small Hotels as part of its effort to expand business and employment in the tourism sector. Through a combination of technical assistance and training USAID has helped the Association to promote the development and registration of both Bed-and-Breakfast operations and family-owned hotels in Croatia. This meeting will promote better coordination among association members and other industry participants with regard to the expansion of existing hotels and the construction of new properties. The meeting will also consider ways to improve the quality of existing hotels and consider how the Association could benefit from better strategic planning.
USAID is the primary assistance organization of the United States Government. Since 1992, the United States has provided over $407 million to Croatia (much of it through USAID programs) to strengthen democratic institutions and assist in postwar reconstruction and the return of refugees, to support de-mining and economic development, and to provide educational and training opportunities. The U.S. has also provided guidance and support to the Croatian judicial and military sectors to further Croatia's integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
