U.S. Embassy Begins Next Day Service for Processing of Non-Immigrant Visas
For Immediate Release
October 27, 2005
Zagreb, October 27, 2005 -- Beginning on Monday, November 7, 2005, the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia will discontinue same-day processing of non-immigrant visas. As of that date, most non-immigrant visas to the U.S. (including tourist visas) will be ready for pick-up on the next business day following the visa interview.
This change is due to the technical processing requirements of non-immigrant visa cases and is consistent with worldwide visa issuance practices.
Visa applicants currently subject to a personal appearance requirement at this Embassy --including visitors for tourism or business, crewmembers, students or exchange visitors -- will be able to pick up approved visas no sooner than one working day following the application. For example, an applicant who applies for a non-immigrant visa on a Monday will be able to pick up his or her passport no sooner than Tuesday at 15:00. Applicants with Friday appointments will be able to pick up their passports no sooner than the following Monday at 15:00. Applicants may also opt to have their passports returned by mail for an additional fee of 15 kuna per passport.
While the consular section will maintain "next day service" for most visas, some visas may take longer to process. We strongly recommend that travelers to the U.S. apply for their visas well in advance of their planned travel date.
This processing change will not affect applicants for immigrant visas.
