DUBROVNIK, Croatia (November 25, 2005) -- The U.S. guided-missile cruiser USS Cape St. George (CG 71) arrives here today for a port visit. The ship is part of the Expeditionary Strike Group 8 (ESG-8), which deployed on from Norfolk, Va., Nov. 7 in support of maritime security operations in both the 6th Fleet and 5th Fleet.
This port visit provides the opportunity to spend time enjoying the local culture while serving to strengthen the Navy's regional relationships, which produces a more secure maritime environment in the theater.
"It is always great to return to a country of such a picturesque coastline and seaports. I have always felt welcomed and enjoyed my time in Croatia," said Capt. Jim Yohe, the commanding officer of USS Cape St. George.
While in port, about 380 Sailors will have a chance to sightsee, shop and enjoy recreational activities. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a community service program and interact on a personal level with local citizens.
"Croatia is a friend of America, and we look forward to seeing the sights," said Cape St. George's Command Master Chief (SW/AW) Chris Engles.
The visit recognizes the established cooperation between the United States and Croatia in the effort to combat terrorism and the terrorists that threaten peace-seeking nations around the world.
