June 24, 2008
GAŠINCI, CROATIA, JUNE 26, 2008 - On Thursday, June 26 at 2:00 PM, U.S. Ambassador Robert Bradtke will join the Mayor of Đakovačka Satnica, Mr. Jozo Raič, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a U.S.-financed Humanitarian Civic Assistance project in Gašinci. Other Croatian Government and local officials will also attend.
Under this program, the U.S. provided funding to put a new roof on the town’s firehouse, which had been damaged by fire. Additionally, the elementary school playground was reconstructed and expanded, new playground equipment was provided, and a local road was paved. This project was accomplished as a part of the Adriatic Aurora 08 multinational military exercise, serving as operational readiness training for the Croatian Army engineering regiment troops and their counterparts from the New Jersey Air National Guard, and the Albanian Army.
This project was achieved through the combined efforts of the U.S. military's European Command (EUCOM), the Office of Defense Cooperation of the United States Embassy in the Republic of Croatia, and the Croatian Government. The total value of the U.S. contribution to this Humanitarian Civic Assistance project was $80,000.
Similar reconstruction programs have been accomplished in Gorice, Batinjani, Maljevac, Vukovar, Pakrac, Petrinja, and Obrovac. The US European Command (EUCOM) worked in close cooperation and shared costs with the Government of the Republic of Croatia on these projects.
