Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Announcement on Croatia

September 25, 2008

ZAGREB, September 25, 2008 - On September 25, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the results of an assessment of Croatia's Civil Aviation Authority.  Croatia received a Category 2 rating.

Based upon an assessment conducted by the FAA in January 2008, this rating evaluates the Croatian Civil Aviation Authority's ability to provide aviation safety oversight in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards.  This rating is not a judgement on the safety of Croatia Airlines or any other airline, nor of the overall safety of travel to Croatia.   A Category 1 rating would have enabled Croatia Airlines and any other carriers based in Croatia to seek establishment of direct commercial air operations to and from the United States and to establish code share agreements.  Since Croatia was previously unrated, no such arrangements had been established, and therefore, the Category 2 rating will not impact current air travel to Croatia.  The FAA stands ready to work with the Croatian Civil Aviation Authority to enable Croatia to achieve a Category 1 rating.
