President Barack Obama Congratulates Prime Minister Milanovic

On December 23, 2011, the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb delivered a congratulatory message from President of the United States Barack Obama to Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.  Below is the text of that message. 

Dear Mr. Prime Minister:

Congratulations on your success in Croatia’s recent elections and on your appointment as Prime Minister of Croatia.

The United States and Croatia are close allies in NATO.  We have benefited from expanding cooperation on many issues of mutual interest, from promoting stability in Southeastern Europe to providing security assistance to Afghanistan.  I am certain that our partnership will continue to prosper under your leadership.  As both a NATO member and the European Union’s next member state, Croatia has set a positive example regarding the path to Euro-Atlantic integration.  The United States will continue to support your efforts as you move deliberately along this path.

I wish you every success in your new position.
