Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program Equipment Donation in Zagreb

The U.S. Embassy on Thursday, April 19, through its Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program, donated equipment for Croatian Border Police and Customs Officers in the amount of over $80,000. The donation includes laptops, hand-held radiation detectors, thermal imaging equipment, and other security items.

Working in cooperation with Croatian Border Police and Customs Officers through the Embassy’s EXBS program, the U.S. Government has assisted Croatia enhance its maritime and land-border security operations in order to prevent illicit transit of WMD-related materials, munitions, and other contraband. Today’s equipment donation shows the United States' continued commitment and partnership with Croatia.

Croatia’s EXBS program began in 2002 and has provided more than $6.2 million in assistance to Croatia through 2012. EXBS is also helping Croatia improve coordination with neighbors through regional cross-border programs, and this includes joint trainings for customs and border police from Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina and a shared web portal for securely sharing strategic information. The EXBS program seeks to enhance the communication and capabilities among front line officers from the three countries to cooperate more effectively on border security and the interdiction of illicit materials.
