Information pertaining to missing American veterans of the Second World War

The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to missing American veterans of the Second World War who were last known to be in Croatia. The United States is committed to locating and identifying all Americans who died in the service of their country. To this end U. S. Army experts will be visiting Croatia in an effort to locate the remains of missing soldiers. They believe there may be people here who have information about the burial sites of these missing servicemen. Any persons who believe they may have knowledge of any of the cases described below, or similar cases, are requested to please contact the Office of Defense Attache at the American Embassy in Zagreb at the contact information listed below.
While the U.S. government does not reward people for information that leads to the recovery of its missing soldiers, the gratitude of the American people and the families of those who gave their lives during the Second World War is a treasure of its own.
1 - Krapinsko-zagorska County, Croatia (City of Krapina)
The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to a missing American veteran of the Second World War who was last known to be in the Krapinaska-Zagorska Region. The missing American was an aviator who was reportedly buried in or near Krapina. 2 - Istarska County, Croatia (Cities of Funtana and Lanisce)
The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to four missing American veterans of the Second World War who were last known to be in the Istarska region. Three of the missing men were airmen whose plane crashed into the sea near Funtana. Ten other airmen were known to have died when their plane crashed near Lanisce. The men were reportedly buried in the town cemetery, but afterward the United States recovered only nine of the ten men. 3 - Varazdinska County, Croatia (Cities of Varazdin and Ivanec)
The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to two missing American veterans of the Second World War who were last known to be in the Varazdinska Region. One aviator was known to have crashed his plane into a farm field near a railroad bridge in Varazdin. Another aviator was known to have parachuted near Varazdin but reportedly died and was buried in Ivanec. 4 - Lika-Senjska County, Croatia (City of Kosinj)
The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to missing American veterans of the Second World War who were last believed to be in the Lika-Senjska Region. 12 men are missing in this region. In one incident, an American bomber went missing along the coast between Rijeka and Zadar with ten men remain missing. In another incident, two aviators are missing from an aircraft that crashed into the mountains near Kosinj. The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to missing American veterans of the Second World War who were last known to be near Vis Island in the Splitsko Region. The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to a missing American veteran of the Second World War who was last known to be near Zagreb. He was an aviator who was last seen flying over the city of Zagreb. 7 - Bjelovarsko-Bilogorska and Koprivnicko-Krizevacka Counties, Croatia
(Cities of Zibrinovec, Cazma, and Guscerovec)
The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to a missing American veteran of the Second World War who was last known to be in either the Bjelovarsko-Bilogorska or Koprivnicko-Krizevacka Region. The missing American is an airman, whose plane crashed near Krizevci. He was reportedly treated at a local hospital but died and was buried in either Cazma or Zibrivovec. His body was never found. 8 - Kninska and Zadar Counties, Croatia (Cities of Knin and Gracac)
The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to two missing American veterans of the Second World War who were last known to be in the Kistanje or Lika Region. The two airmen were known to parachute between the towns of Gracae and Knin before their aircraft crashed. The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to two missing American veterans of the Second World War who were last known to be in the Sisacko-Moslavacka Region. The two airmen’s plane crashed somewhere in or near the Lonjsko Polje Marshes. Their crewmates parachuted near Lonjsko-Polje, Kutina, and Ivanjaska. The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking information pertaining to a missing American veteran of the Second World War who was last known to be in the Viroviticko-Podravska Region. The missing American was an airman known to have parachuted in the mountains west of Slatina. Partisans assisted his crewmates, but nothing is known of this airman.
