Zagreb, November 28, 2006 - USAID Mission Director William Jeffers will address 140 representatives from eighty Croatian NGOs at a conference "Getting your Piece of the Pie - Without Writing Proposals". This three-day conference will begin on Wednesday, November 29, at 10:00 a.m. at the International Hotel, Miramarska St. 24, Zagreb.

The purpose of the conference is to help Croatian NGO leaders acquire innovative best practices for fundraising. As a result, Croatian NGOs will be better prepared to diversify their funding base and further improve the financial sustainability of Croatian civil society.

The conference will include both international and Croatian fundraising experiences. Major topics will include corporate fundraising, face-to-face fundraising, fundraising events, direct NGO marketing, and branding for NGOs.

This USAID-funded conference is organized in cooperation with the Academy for Educational Development (AED), the Civil Society Development Foundation (CSDF) from Hungary and Croatian NGO representatives.

This is part of USAID's Assistance to Croatian NGOs (CroNGO) program implemented by the Academy for Educational Development (AED). Its' goals are to increase the NGO advocacy capacity, financial viability, organizational capacity and networking. It also promotes the practice of voluntarism and improves the visibility of the NGO sector within Croatian society. Details on these activities are available on www.aed.hr

USAID is the primary assistance organization of the United States Government. Since 1992, the United States has provided over $407 million to Croatia (much of it through USAID programs) to strengthen democratic institutions and assist in postwar reconstruction and the return of refugees, to support de-mining and economic development, and to provide educational and training opportunities. The U.S. has also provided guidance and support to the Croatian judicial and military sectors to further Croatia's integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
