Zagreb, September 27, 2006 - U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission, Greg Delawie will address participants of a regional seminar on social entrepreneurship "Emerging Models of Social Entrepreneurship: Possible Paths for Social Enterprise Development in Central East and South East Europe". The event will take place on September 28-29, 2006 at the Regent Esplanade Hotel, Zagreb.

This seminar is jointly organized by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Trento Center for Local Development, in cooperation with the Institute for the Development of Non-Profit Organizations (ISSAN). The purpose is to analyze the role of legal framework in regulating social enterprises across OECD countries and to discuss the recent evolution of the non-profit sector that has combined economic and social goals.

This event will bring together over fifty participants from Central East and South East Europe, including national policy makers, academics, legal experts, and leading practitioners coming from the profit and not-for-profit sector. In addition, several experts from OECD member countries will give presentations.

USAID is the primary assistance organization of the United States Government. Since 1992, the United States has provided over $407 million to Croatia (much of it through USAID programs) to strengthen democratic institutions and assist in postwar reconstruction and the return of refugees, to support de-mining and economic development, and to provide educational and training opportunities. The U.S. has also provided guidance and support to the Croatian judicial and military sectors to further Croatia's integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
