United States Government donation of modules and equipment to the Judicial Academy
On June 19th, 2006, the United States Embassy and ABA CEELI Croatia held an official ceremony at the Croatian Judicial Academy for the donation of the modules, computer and office equipment, and professional legal resources to the Judicial Academy and its regional training centers. The donated modules will allow the Judicial Academy to continue the training implemented by ABA CEELI on the following six topics; Witness Protection: International Experience; Witness Protection: Practical Considerations; Prosecuting International Crimes in Domestic Courts; Right to Fair Trial and Media Relations; Complex Case Study: Massacre, and Sexual Assault in Armed Conflicts.
The American Bar Association/Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (ABA CEELI), in cooperation with the United States Government and the Judicial Academy, has successfully completed its 18-month training program in Croatia. The program included the delivery of 13 training sessions for judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys and the police, two study trips to the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia in the Hague, preparation of six training modules for donation to the Croatian Judicial Academy, and publication of an International Criminal Law Resource Guide produced in cooperation with Zagreb School of Law.
The above efforts were a part of United States funded program in Croatia and were designed to build the capacity of the Croatian judiciary to successfully adjudicate war crimes in domestic courts.
