RAISING FUNDS FOR GOOD CAUSES
Zagreb, March 28, 2007 - USAID Mission Director William Jeffers will address 100 representatives of the local and national government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the business sector at a conference "Self-financing Activities and Social Enterprise in the Non-profit Sector". He will be joined by Igor Vidaček, Head of the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs. The conference will take place on March 28, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. at the Hotel International, Miramarska 24, Zagreb.
The purpose of the conference is to discuss how NGOs can generate income for their programs through activities such as membership fees, sale of products, fee for services, investment dividends, and improved management of their own assets.
The conference will also feature a session on philanthropy for representatives of the business sector that will present current trends and examples of organizations outside Croatia that have successfully implemented social enterprise strategies.
This USAID-funded conference is organized in cooperation with the Academy for Educational Development (AED), and the Nonprofit Enterprise and Self-Sustainability Team (NESsT).
This is part of USAID's Assistance to Croatian NGOs (CroNGO) program that increases the NGO advocacy capacity, financial viability, organizational capacity and networking. It also promotes the practice of voluntarism and visibility of the sector within Croatian society. Details on these activities are available on www.aed.hr
USAID is the primary assistance organization of the United States Government. Since 1992, the United States has provided over $407 million to Croatia (much of it through USAID programs) to strengthen democratic institutions and assist in postwar reconstruction and the return of refugees, to support de-mining and economic development, and to provide educational and training opportunities. The U.S. has also provided guidance and support to the Croatian judicial and military sectors to further Croatia's integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
