U.S. AMBASSADOR BRADTKE PROMOTES E-VUKOVAR ACTIVITIES
Zagreb, January 25, 2007 - U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, Robert A. Bradtke, will visit the City of Vukovar on January 26, 2007. During his visit Ambassador Bradtke will meet with the Mayor of Vukovar, Tomislav Šota to mark the commencement of e-government system, the first e-Vukovar activity. Ambassador Bradtke will also visit the local Chamber of Economy where the IT training for SMEs is already under way.
E-Vukovar is a joint initiative of Vukovar, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and private businesses, including IBM and Microsoft, to expand Information, communications, and technology applications. The purpose of the program is to improve government services, business productivity, and access to education and training.
USAID's e-government system will help the City of Vukovar to improve work performance within their local government. It also provides real-time on-line services to citizens and businesses and enables interactive communication between the local government and citizens. Currently over 2 million citizens use the USAID-designed e-government system in over 100 local governments throughout Croatia. This system has been expanded in Vukovar to include all public companies.
Ambassador Bradtke will greet the participants of the IT training for business users. This is a joint initiative of the Chamber of Economy which provided space, USAID which provided 11 lap tops, the City of Vukovar and Local Development Agency (LEDA) who are sponsoring the training.
