USS THE SULLIVANS VISITS SPLIT
SPLIT, Croatia (January 18, 2007) -- The U.S. guided missile destroyer USS The Sullivans (DDG-68) arrived here today for a port visit. The ship is homeported in Norfolk, Virginia on the East Coast of the Untied States. The Sullivans is supporting Maritime Security Operations with partner nations in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Black Seas.
This port visit provides the opportunity to spend time enjoying the local culture while serving to strengthen the U.S. Navy's regional relationships, which produces a more secure maritime environment in the region.
While in Split, The Sullivans's officers and crew will participate in basketball and soccer matches against Croatian Navy teams and will enjoy crew exchanges visits to ships of both navies. Approximately 20 volunteers from The Sullivans will conduct maintenance and clean-up at the Juraj Bonaci Centre for the Mentally Ill Children and Adolescents.
The Sullivans's 300 sailors will have a chance to sightsee, shop and enjoy recreational activities.
The visit recognizes the established cooperation between the United States and Croatia.
