    Black History Month Lecture

    Ken Wetzel, Assistant Public Affairs Officer, delivered a lecture about distinguished African Americans to high-school students at the Library for the Youth in Karlovac on February 24, 2010. Sgt. Gyamfi joined the lively discussion.

    At the regular TED Talks event organized by the Public Affairs Section, Mr. Zorislav Antun Petrovic from Transparency International Hrvatska led the discussion about Peter Eigen’s ideas on how to expose the corrupt, in Zagreb on February 23, 2010.

    Sabre Children’s Books Donated to Čakovec Public Library

    In partnership with the Sabre Foundation Zagreb, Nancy Walraven, Office Manager, donated a collection of reading kits and English-language children’s books to the Public Library in Čakovec on February 23, 2010.

    American Corners Croatia Workshop in Osijek

    The Information Resource Center Zagreb, in partnership with the City and University Library Osijek, and Catherine Marsicek, Regional Information Resource Officer, organized the annual American Corners Croatia workshop in Osijek on February 18-19, 2010.

    U.S. Embassy Donates $450,000 in Detection Equipment to Croatian Customs

    On February 18, Chris Milam, head of the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) office, and Ms. Ivana Soic, the Assistant Director for Croatian Customs, took part in a ceremony marking the donation of fiber scopes and specialized photographic equipment for detecting and interdicting contraband.

    In partnership with the Sabre Foundation Zagreb, Ms. Marsicek visited the Velika Gorica Public Library on February 18, 2010. After the library tour, she donated a collection of reading kits and English-language children’s books.

    Florida High School Students Visit Embassy With Croatian Partner School

    High school students and teachers from Clearwater Florida visited the Embassy on February 16, along with members of their Croatian sister school.

    Information Resource Officer Catherine Marsicek Visited Library of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU)

    During her visit to the library, Mrs. Marsicek was briefed about the value of the library collection, and was shown the two most valuable publications, Lezionario Farnese and reprint of Casoslov Farnese, copies of which are also kept in two libraries in New York.     Open School Program in Nova Gradiska

    Economic officer Todd Bullock and Marine Security Guard Cpl Atly Blum participated in the Open School program at Nova Gradiska high school where they talked to local students about U.S. education, exchange programs and the U.S. foreign service, on February 16, 2010.

    Ambassador Foley Attends Donation Ceremony in Vukovar

    On February 10, Ambassador Foley attended a ceremony which marked the start of a $430,000 renovation of the Student Dormitory in the Vukovar neighborhood of Borovo Naselje, project financed by the U.S. European Command (EUCOM), the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) - Embassy Zagreb, and the city of Vukovar.
