    "Safety On the Internet" Press Conference

    Sita Sonty, Cultural Affairs Officer, spoke at a press conference conducted via Skype on January 31, 2012. The conference was hosted by SB Film and the City Library in Slavonski Brod. Representatives of national and local media asked questions about the “Safely on the Internet”, project whose goal is to help elementary school kids avoid negative aspects of using social media and the Internet.

    Vukovar Students Learn about Hip Hop

    Fulbright student Richelle Bernazzoli delivered a lecture on the “History of Hip Hop in the U.S.” at the integrated Economic high school in Vukovar on January 27, 2012. The Principal introduced the speaker and thanked the U.S. Embassy for support.

    Croatian Youth Learns About U.S. Elections

    Sita Sonty, Cultural Affairs Officer, delivered the first of the series of lectures on U.S. Elections to the high school students at the American Corner Zagreb. The other three Corners in Rijeka, Zadar, and Osijek joined via DVC. Students showed great interest and asked high-brow questions regarding the elections in the U.S. In Zagreb on January 26, 2012

    Ambassador Foley met with the Croatian Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Dr. Željko Jovanović, and discussed educational cooperation and importance of Croatia’s accession to the EU.

    Black History Month Celebrated at American Corner

    Fulbright student Brittany Swingle delivered an inspiring presentation on Martin Luther King Jr. to the students from Velika Gorica. Audiences at the American Corners Osijek and Rijeka were connected via DVC. The presentation covered M.L. King’s life and fight for equal civil rights. In Zagreb on January 25, 2012

    Hip Hop in Karlovac

    Fulbright student Richelle Bernazzoli delivered a lecture on the “History of Hip Hop in the U.S.” to a group of 150 high school students on January 23, 2012 in Karlovac. Local hip hop group “Promenada” joined with their dance performance.

    Ambassador Foley meets with Mr. Boris Žuvela, Mayor of Vela Luka, and Ms. Danica Juričić Spasović, Head of the Croatian President’s Office, before their departure on the International Visitor Programs entitled “State and Local Governments,” and “U.S. Presidential Primaries,” respectively.

    Tim Gerhardson, Public Affairs Officer, donated new furniture for the children’s department at the American Corner Osijek. The American Corner Osijek intends to include children in their programs. In Osijek on January 13, 2012

    Series of lectures on American history, government, law, economic policy and cultural environment in Karlovac

    Professor Lawrence S. Waite gave a series of lectures about American social and cultural environment, political and legal institutions and functioning, economic milieu and historical legacy at the Karlovac Youth Library. The program continues in 2012.
