Tax Forms and Questions

The Consular section can provide you with any tax form needed (e.g., 1040 for overseas filers, extension forms). If you have Internet access, you can access the IRS website directly (www.irs.gov) for forms and information. The Consular Section cannot answer specific questions regarding filling out or filing the forms. However, the IRS website has a great deal of information for overseas filers, including an overseas filing publication page http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/index.html and a frequently asked questions page http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq13-7.html.

Taxpayers may also wish to contact an IRS international office or the IRS overseas filing center located in the U.S. Contact information is available at http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/article/0,,id=101292,00.html.

Consular officers cannot act as lawyers, tax advisors, investigators, banks, law enforcement officers, or travel agents. Please do not expect them to find you employment, get you residence or driving permits, act as interpreters, search for missing luggage, or help you settle disputes with hotel managers. They can, however, tell you how to get help with these and other matters.
